You make hope possible.

Adopt-A-Family

You can help a family in need this holiday season.

Many families struggle to put food on the table or even find a safe place to sleep at night – so when the holiday season comes around, it's no surprise that many of these families do without gifts and presents for their children and loved ones. With your help, we can make this Christmas a little brighter for Columbus families in need.

What does it mean to adopt a family?

When you "adopt" a family, you are helping to take away a big financial hurdle for families in need by donating Christmas presents they otherwise wouldn't have. The Adopt-A-Family program benefits the families in our Columbus housing programs – families who are homeless or at-risk of being homeless and struggling to make ends meet. By adopting a family, you are giving hope for the holidays.

How does it work?

The families in our Columbus housing programs fill out a family profile to list items they may need or want for Christmas. These items include toys, clothing, and household items. You are then paired with a family based on family size and provided the family profile to help guide you when purchasing gifts. We encourage you to get one 'want' item and one 'need item from the profile list. When you adopt a family, you are under no obligation to spend a specific amount of money on a family, though it is standard to spend around $25 for each family member.

How do I get started?

If you are ready to help a family in need this Christmas, email debra.hughes@voago.org, or call us at (614) 253-6100. We will pair you with a family and send you their family profile. All gifts can be wrapped (don't forget a tag!), and dropped off at our office located at 1776, E. Broad Street between 9am - 4pm.

**The deadline to donate gifts for Adopt-A-Family is Friday, December 9. This gives us enough time to deliver your presents to the families in time for Christmas!**

Don't want to adopt, but want to help Columbus families in need?

That's no problem! We are always looking for extra donations to help other families and children in need this Christmas. Consider holding a holiday gift drive at work or church to collect gifts and toys to donate. You can drop off your donations (unwrapped) to 1776 E. Broad Street, by Friday, December 9. You can use this Wish List and Supply Drive Flier to get started!

You can also donate, and we'll use the money to buy extra gifts and food for the families!
