Adopt-A-Family

You can help a family in need this holiday season!

Many families struggle to put food on the table or even find a safe place to sleep at night – so when the holiday season comes around, it's no surprise that many of these families do without gifts and presents for their children and loved ones. With your help, we can make this Christmas a little brighter for Columbus families in need.

What does it mean to adopt a family?

When you "adopt" a family, you are helping to take away a big financial hurdle for families in need by donating Christmas presents they otherwise wouldn't have. The Adopt-A-Family program benefits the families in our Columbus housing programs – families who are homeless or at-risk of being homeless and struggling to make ends meet. By adopting a family, you are giving hope for the holidays.

How does it work?

We will provide a brief family profile when you are paired with a family. We will also provide a Christmas list of suggested items to purchase. We encourage you to get one or two items per family member. When you adopt a family, you are under no obligation to spend a specific amount of money on a family, though it is standard to spend around $25 for each family member.

How do I get started?

If you are ready to help a family in need this Christmas, email debra.hughes@voago.org, or call us at (614) 253-6100. We will pair you with a family and send you their family profile. All gifts can be wrapped (don't forget a tag!), and dropped off at our office located at 1776, E. Broad Street between 9am - 4pm.

**The deadline to donate gifts for Adopt-A-Family is Friday, December 15. This gives us enough time to deliver your presents to the families in time for Christmas!**

Other meaningful ways to help Columbus families in need.

We are always looking for extra donations to help the homeless veterans we serve during the cold, winter months. Consider holding a holiday gift drive at work or church to collect books, hygiene items, hats, coats, and gloves to donate. You can drop off your donations (unwrapped) to 1776 E. Broad Street. You can use this Wish List and Supply Drive Flier to get started!

You can also donate, and we'll use the money to buy extra gifts and food for the families and veterans we serve!
