  • Lucky Thrift Store Shopper Walks Away with Signed Picasso
    One regular Volunteers of America Thrift Store Shopper had a very lucky shopping day. On one of his trips to the thrift store, he picked up what seemed to be an original Picasso print in the Volunteers of America Thrift Store on Indianola Avenue in Columbus for just $14.14. Turns out, he was right. The print sold for $7,000.
  • Home Depot® Pledges Funds for Homeless Vets
    The Home Depot® Foundation has pledged $30 million over three years to address veterans’ housing issues. This includes a three-year partnership with Volunteers of America nationwide. Locally, Volunteers of America has received nearly $30,000 in Home Depot® grants to support projects at our veterans housing and employment programs in Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton.
  • Under Construction: A Home for the Brave
    Construction is underway on a new home for struggling Cincinnati veterans. The $1.9 million Home for the Brave facility will provide transitional housing to 54 male and female homeless veterans as they work toward self-sufficiency through education, employment, substance abuse treatment and supportive case management.

  • Veteran Struggles to Make Ends Meet
    It was 2002, just a few short months after the 9/11 attacks. Kevin Payne was 24 years old and decided to join the Navy to help defend his country. Now 33 years old, Kevin is a resident at a Volunteers of America Transitional Housing Program for homeless veterans. Programs like this provide a place for veterans to regain their balance and build a solid foundation for an independent future.

  • American Spirit – HeARTworks Art Show Benefits Vets
    HeARTworks’ American Spirit collection commemorates the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Art is the work of Cuyahoga County residents with developmental disabilities. Proceeds benefit homeless veterans of the Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio Cleveland Veterans Resource Center.

Donate gently used business attire at any Columbus area Men's Wearhouse location now through August 31 and you're give more than clothes, you're helping veterans in need dress for success.     For too many kids, the school year will begin without a backpack and the supplies they need to succeed. But you can make a difference by donating to Operation Backpack. Your donation with help prepare a Central Ohio child with a backpack and school supplies to boost his self-esteem and help him feel like a regular kid.

    St. Bernard Commons, a senior housing community is on track to begin construction in March. The facility will provide safe, affordable, long-term housing to seniors over the age of 62.

    The 20th annual Thanksgiving Care-A-Van program went off without a hitch. 2,500 meals were prepared, packaged and delivered to those in need in Central Ohio. Thank you again to all of our amazing volunteers and partners - we couldn't do it without you!
